Soul food / post election blues.. (Ras Michael & The Sons of Negus - Rastafari - 1975) #ontheturntable #nowplaying #reggae #grounation #rasmichael #rasmichaelandthesonsofnegus
Morning classic..
Something beautiful and sublime to counter one of the darkest days in the recent history of Britain. As we find ourselves, once again, governed by the worst among us - those who prey upon the weak and vulnerable for personal gain - those who lay waste to the present and future in the name of profit and greed - sociopaths, propped up by the fear and selfishness they sow, we must acknowledge that it is where the true fight begins. This battle is not for ourselves - for our own well beings - it is a battle for our children, our friends, our peers, and, most importantly, for those who increasingly find themselves cast out and left behind by this evil in our midst. If a society is to be judged by how it treats and regards its weakest members, the implication of this day is dark indeed. Our coming battle must be rooted in the heart. In our love for others over ourselves. For this reason I channel Kant, who illuminated art - the sublime - as an indication of the freedom we have yet to gain. We can not give up hope. We must strive for the best. (In simpler language, fuck these cunts, they don’t get to win)
Such a special record. Most of those aware of Grippe, tend to focus on his masterpiece, Sand, released by Shandar in 1977, skipping over this one, which is considerably more out there, and arguably more ambitious, issued by the Swedish imprint, BIS, that same year. Essential for fans of avant-garde and experimental electroacoustic, electronic, and tape music, etc. #ontheturntable #nowplaying #ragnargrippe #electroacousticmusic
Chugging through the day. One of my favorite players of all time backed by the insanely good line up of Steve Reid, Ronnie Boykins, and Melvin Smith. Issued privately on Tyler’s imprint, AK-BA, in 1977. #ontheturntable #nowplaying #freejazz #loftjazz #privatepressjazz #charlestyler
An under-celebrated gem which deserves a place in every minimalism fan’s collection - Mikel Rouse’s masterstoke for LinnDrum (or 18 percussion players) from 1984. #ontheturntable #nowplaying #linndrum #minimalmusic #mikelrouse
